OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR OF MICHIGAN 2011-2018
DIRECTOR OF URBAN AND METROPOLITAN INITIATIVES
• Was a Principal Advisor to Governor Rick Snyder on matters related to urban and regional economic initiatives that contribute to job growth.
Led on Urban Agenda Development for Michigan, with a Focus on Anchor Strategy Initiatives for Economic Development.
Co-chaired the Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee, through Executive Order 2016-1, to address the 2015 Flint Water Crisis.
• Managed three regional satellite offices located in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Flint.
• Governor’s liaison to Michigan Mayors.
• Worked closely with all state departments, the foundation community, and business sector to establish policies and to create the strategic framework to maximize the state’s role in urban economic development in Michigan.
• Interfaced on behalf of the Governor with federal, state and local officials.
• Testified at public hearings before state committees.
• Represented the office of the Governor among community and business organizations.
• Speaker for the Governor at local, statewide and national organizations on policies impacting urban revitalization.

• Served as the University’s senior lobbyist on federal, state and local legislative and political affairs.
• Managed the University’s offices in Lansing and Washington D.C.
• Advised the University’s president, senior administration officials and faculty on key legislative, policy and community issues.
• Testified at public hearings before state committees.
• Represented Wayne State University among community and business organizations.
• Secured nearly $60 million for capital development and research from state and federal resources.
• Wayne State’s lead in the creation of Michigan’s University Research Corridor (a collaboration with the University of Michigan and Michigan State University).

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS REPRESENTATIVE
• AARP Michigan’s senior lobbyist.
• Coordinated and implemented state legislative strategy and federal grassroots efforts in Michigan.
• Conferred with members of Congress, the Michigan legislature and municipal officials.
• Communicated with state departments and regulatory agencies to enlist support for Association interests.
• Managed over 100 AARP members responsible for sustaining AARP’s federal, state legislative and electoral operations in Michigan.
• Lobbied state elected officials in IL, IN, OH, and WI.
• Served as AARP’s Michigan Representative on the 1998 White House Conference on Social Security.

• Wrote, designed and produced annual appropriation budgets for the Departments of Commerce, Labor and the Michigan Jobs Commission.
•Analyzed legislation relating to assigned budget area for fiscal impact.
• Prepared and justified budget requests.
• Testified before the appropriations and standing committees of the Michigan House and Senate.
• Submitted recommendations for budget allocations.
• Recommended approval or disapproval of requests for state funds.
